Obstruction Allegations at Buffalo Public Schools
An extensive investigation into the Buffalo Public School District is underway, as it has recently come to light that the district had been covering up issues of assault and abuse occurring inside and outside of schools in the district.
Recently Richard Hy, a Buffalo SVU Detective, has accused the Buffalo School District of failing to protect its students from abuse and in some cases even obstructing investigations by police.
According to Hy, the Buffalo School District has withheld information from parents on incidents involving their children as well as deleted school surveillance videos related to the incidents.
In Richard Hy’s words, “The Buffalo School system has been intentionally not reporting the sexual assaults of students.”
He then went on to say “My best estimate is that they’re afraid or don’t want the numbers to show that there are these police investigations occurring at these schools or sexual assaults occurring at their schools because it could affect any funding or something somehow.”
While on the Unsubscribe Podcast, Hy spoke about a specific incident of an alleged attempted abduction of two students of Charles R. Drew Magnet School.
Hy states that not only did the school not disclose to the parents that their child was part of an attempted abduction, but the school went on to delete the video surveillance footage showing the incident.
Detective Hy claims that school officials obstructed evidence gathering as well as ignored subpoenas and court orders in an effort to cover up abuse cases which the SVU was investigating.
Because of this negligence and obstruction, victims may be entitled to significant compensation, even if the incident took place years ago.
If you or a loved one were who attended a Buffalo public school and were abused or assaulted, you should speak with an attorney as soon as possible.
Further Evidence Against Buffalo School District
After the release of Detective Hy’s podcast episode on the Unsubscribe Podcast, a teacher from the district has come forward as well.
Marc Burno has been teaching at Buffalo Public Schools for over 24 years, mostly at Riverside High School.
Burno says he has seen first hand the district trying to downplay issues he brought forward while acting as a speaker at school board meetings.
Bruno stated “When I speak at school board meetings about violence at Riverside, they change my speech titles. If my speech title is escalating violence at Riverside, they change it to Riverside High School. It’s done so that the media doesn’t pick up on it and send a camera crew to the meeting.”
Between Bruno and Hy’s allegations, it appears there may be a culture of downplaying serious issues affecting students within Buffalo Public Schools.
