Sexual Abuse Allegations at Faith Life Church

Faith Life Church in Ohio was founded by Gary Keesee and Drenda Keesee in 1995. The church, located in New Albany, focuses on faith-based financial teachings, personal development, and spiritual growth.

For decades, Faith Life Church presented itself as a sanctuary. A place of trust, of faith, and family. But behind the doors of its New Albany campus, allegations of abuse  surfaced.

There are allegations from several women that Tom Keesee, son of the founders and former chief media officer, sexually abused.

At least 11 victims, some of them minors, have come forward with stories of sexual abuse by church staff and youth program staff.

Among the accusers is his sister, Kirsten McKinney.

After the allegations, the institution chose silence and denial to protect itself instead of protecting the abused victims.

When one of the survivors sought help from the Knox County Sheriff’s office, she was told that they could not investigate due to a conflict of interest. Gary and Drenda Keesee, the founders of Faith Life Church, have political ties to the city, as Drenda Keesee is a Knox County commissioner.

She was then referred to Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost, who, according to complaints, said he could not take the case due to a conflict of interests since he is close friends with the Faith Life Church founders.

Survivors had to post on social media to create awareness of the abuse and fight for justice. The abuse claims were shared widely and a petition was then started demanding accountability; it gathered over 2,500 signatures.

Because of the petition and after weeks of nothing being done and no investigations taking place or holding anyone accountable, the Licking County The Sheriff’s Office is now investigating the case and urging all survivors to come forward.

If you or a loved one ever attended Faith Life Church and experienced sexual abuse, harassment, or misconduct, you are not alone.

There is support, and there are people who believe you. This is your chance to be heard, to heal, and to hold those responsible accountable.

Lawsuits Against Faith Life Church

According to a recent complaint, the abuse has been going on for years and it’s unknown how many victims there could be.

A former church staff member, Connie McVay,  provided information to investigators, citing firsthand knowledge of inappropriate relationships within the church.

There are concerns that Faith Life Church may have been aware of the abuse allegations but, rather than protecting the victims, prioritized its own interests.

Lawsuits are currently being filed to hold the church and the abusers accountable, no matter who they are or their political ties.

Victims and their families deserve justice and compensation for their suffering.

It’s common for victims of sexual assault and sexual abuse to discount the fact that they’ve been hurt by a person that they trust, such as a pastor or other church staff members, or they might feel ashamed, embarrassed, and scared to tell others about the abuse.

If you or a loved one have experienced sexual assault, inappropriate touching, or any form of abuse, know that help and justice are within reach.

Although we know that even 7-figure compensation can’t erase a life-altering event or heal the pain, it can at least help reduce the financial stress and help hold offenders and their employers accountable to help prevent future abuse.

What To Do Next

While no amount of compensation can erase the pain of abuse, it can support efforts to stop it from happening to others.

When more survivors come forward, their shared voices can help hold abusers accountable and create real change.

If you or a loved one experienced sexual abuse or sexual assault, you should speak with an attorney as soon as possible.
